REVERSE ENGINEERING

PSH Design has delivered reverse engineering for international clients for more than 17 years, on thousands of parts a year, from a single scanned bracket to complete vehicle and appliance programmes. We take point-cloud or mesh data and return production-ready CAD: fully parametric history in whichever professional CAD platform your team works in, hybrid models, or NURBS surfaces built to the tolerance you specify.

What separates the work is that the same team also builds Class A surfaces. A scanned shape can be rebuilt to Class A quality rather than merely fitted to the cloud, which matters for automotive, motorcycle, marine and high-end appliance parts, where the reconstructed surface has to look right as well as measure right.

What we rebuild

Parametric solid models with usable feature trees, for parts that will be edited, versioned or re-tooled. Hybrid models where only the critical features need history. Pure surface reconstructions in NURBS for cosmetic and aerodynamic geometry. Inspection-grade models for 3D CMM metrology, GD&T and deviation reporting, which is the work we do for several of the leading measurement companies in North America. Legacy parts with no drawings, worn or damaged components, hand-formed prototypes and competitor benchmarking studies all fall inside this.

What to send

Scan data in STL, PLY, OBJ, ASC or E57, or the raw output of your ATOS, Faro, Creaform or Artec system. If you have a physical part only, tell us its size and material and we will advise on scanning. Useful but not required: existing drawings, target tolerance, the CAD format your downstream process needs, and a note on which features are functional and which are cosmetic. That last point changes how the model is built more than anything else on the list.

Where reverse engineering sits

Reverse engineering is often the first step rather than the whole job. Scanned geometry feeds Concept Design & CAS when an existing product is being restyled; it feeds Class A Surfacing when the exterior has to reach production surface quality; and it feeds CAD Engineering when the rebuilt part has to be detailed, assembled and released for tooling. Because the four run under one roof, data is not re-created at each handover.

How your data is handled

Scan data and CAD are held on access-controlled storage, worked on only by the engineers assigned to your project, and never used as portfolio material without written permission. We sign your NDA before any file is transferred, and we return or delete the working set at the end of the project on request. Several of our clients are OEM tier-one suppliers, and the handling follows what their audits require.
